What springs to mind when you think of an English village? Pretty stone houses with more history and character than you can shake a stick at? Colourful country gardens? A traditional, picturesque church? Wildlife wherever you look, from ducks to pheasants, and foxes to badgers? Traditional English pubs with relaxed beer gardens, serving delicious locally sourced food? Fields scattered with horses and herds of cattle? A photo opportunity at every corner, whatever the time of year?
The village of Biddestone described as the quintessential english village provides you with all of the above, plus much more.
Located in a beautiful part of North West Wiltshire, Biddestone is just 20 minutes from Bath and around 2 hours from London, it has a small population of just a few hundred. With a lovely Norman church, two pubs, and a duck pond in a green at the centre of the village, Biddestone can be traced back from Saxon times, although most of its buildings are from the late 18th century.
Wiltshire is renowned for its eight White Horses, and is bisected by the Kennet and Avon Canal. If you enjoy walking, cycling or golf, Biddestone is the perfect choice, located on the Macmillan Way and Wiltshire Cycle Way with six golf courses nearby.
Biddestone has a wide range of attractions in the surrounding area, such as the World Heritage Site of Bath, Castle Combe Racing Circuit, Lacock, Badminton, Longleat and Corsham Court. For more information on these and other places to visit, please go to our Local Information and Links page.
